The Chronicle
Chapter V — The Pale Marches
The cobbles give out, the Wall falls behind, and the grass takes over. Nobody stops you going. That is the lesson, and it is not a comfortable one.
A prototype — not the Towne itself
The Chronicle is a separate game built to teach how BellusTowne works and to show what is coming. Nothing you do here changes anything in BellusTowne — no Standing, no Deeds, no coin, no rank, no record. Your progress lives only in this browser.
The Marching Orders
Read the orders nailed to the post at the head of the road (✶), article by article.
—
Where you stand
Open country. The orders (✶) at the head of the road, the ford (O) at the middle water, the herbwife's rack west, the outriders' stones east, a wayfire in the south.
The keepers
The March-Warden, the Forester, the Fordkeeper, the Herbwife, the Lampwright and the Outrider. None of them will stop you leaving, and all of them will help you back.

The one rule
The gate opens both ways. Leaving costs nothing, what you made goes with you, and returning asks only where you have been.
The road north (▼) carries you back through the Wall.
